"The more I live with AIDS, the more I am amazed not by how much it attacks the body, but by how much it frees the mind."
LAWRENCE SLOAN 1959-1995
Artist and activist Larry Sloan died of complications from AIDS on January 19, 1995, but not before making a profound mark on Chicago's theater community and Season Of Concern.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Larry's professional career began at the Goodman, where he rose through the ranks to become Associate Director, before moving on to serve as Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed Remains Theatre from 1986-1993.
In 1991, Sloan became the first-ever Executive Director of Season of Concern. Under his leadership, SOC doubled its annual budget and raised more than $500,000 for local AIDS service agencies.
Larry Sloan remains a shining example of what Season Of Concern can do - and who we are doing it for. |
