How Season of Concern Helped Me: Donica Lynn

When I was 22 years old, I participated in a reading at the now-defunct Chicago Theater Company where Douglas Allen Mann and Luther Goins (current SOC President) were managing directors. Douglas and Luther saw a light in me, took a chance, began to nurture what they called “natural talent” and life took a new direction. Being an actor, artist, and creator of change became my passion.

Since 2010, I’ve been battling a brain tumor and severe seizures. The Actors Fund and Season of Concern are like extended family having assisted me during difficult times when I was unable to work due to my illness.  It is a HUGE comfort to know that while I don’t rely on Season of Concern, they are there if/when I need them.  They provided assistance with my rent, gas, cable, internet and phone bills.

I’m still here today because people like E. Faye Butler, Sharon Sachs, Sean Blake, Jacqueline Williams, Cedric Young, Felicia Fields, Doug Peck, Abena Joan Brown and so many others continued to encourage that light.
